Measuring the impact of pruritus on epidermolysis bullosa patients: evaluation using an itch-specific instrument

Pruritus is one of the most debilitating symptoms for patients with epidermolysis bullosa (EB). This study aimed to assess burden itch and address its dimensions across EB. Forty-six EB were recruited from Saudi registry participate. All participants completed Leuven Itch Scale. The sample included 5 simplex (EBS), 3 junctional (JEB), 34 dystrophic (DEB), 4 had unknown type. Overall, 97.8% reported itch. In itch, 73.3% that it was often or always present, longer than 2 h episodes by JEB (66.7%) recessive DEB (RDEB) (3.2%). Itch, in all dimensions, worst EBS. occurred mostly a hot environment (80%), when sweating (71.1%), healing wounds (40%), during dressing change (35.6%) whereas cold resulted only (2.2%). pruritus increased increasing age. highlights challenging area care need specific treatments.
